T-Bones Pick Up Pitching at Open Tryout

03/21/2006 3:00 PM - The Kansas City T-Bones gained some much-needed pitching help at the Northern League Open Tryout in Tampa, Florida. Right-hander Chris Waters signed with the club Tuesday, becoming the fifth member of the T-Bones’ 2006 pitching staff after impressing Manager “Dirty” Al Gallagher throughout the two-day workout.

“He showed good velocity the first day,” Gallagher said, “and he did a great job of locating his pitches.”

Waters, 23, compiled a 6-8 record and 4.09 ERA in 70 relief appearances over his two seasons in the Angels farm system. The Miami native played collegiately at the University of North Florida prior to being selected by Anaheim in the 16th round of the 2004 draft.

Waters posted his best season two years ago at Provo (R-Pioneer League), going 5-3 with a 2.91 earned run average and 47 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings pitched. In 2005, Waters earned four saves at Class A Cedar Rapids (Midwest League), finishing with a 1-5 record and 5.09 ERA.
