Knippschild Improves to 4-0 in T-Bones Victory

06/07/2010 9:06 PM -

Brian Joynt connected for an eighth-inning grand slam to put the first game of a four-game set against the Winnipeg Goldeyes (10-8) out of reach as the Kansas City T-Bones (12-5) won 12-3 on Monday night in Canada.

Ryan Knippschild (4-0, pictured) gave Kansas City a solid outing, surrendering just two runs on six hits in six and two-thirds innings of work to remain perfect on the season.  Winnipeg gained an early 1-0 advantage against the University of Kansas product when former teammate, Aharon Eggleston, was hit by a pitch with one out in the first and later scored on a triple by Kevin West.  The Goldeyes added their only other tally against Knippschild in the fifth on a solo home run by Juan Diaz, his league-leading sixth of the season.

With the victory, Knippschild has matched his season win total from 2009 at four.

Kansas City took the lead with a three-run second inning against Ace Walker (2-1), plating the first two on a double by Dwayne White.  Jimmy Mojica drove in the final run with an RBI single for a 3-1 T-Bones lead.

Jacob Blackwood added Kansas City’s fourth run with a solo home run in the fifth inning, his fifth of the season.  Walker battled for two more innings before two hits and an error loaded the bases for Joynt with nobody out in the eighth.  Walker left following Joynt’s blast, taking the loss after surrendering eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits in seven-plus innings.

Kansas City added four more in the ninth to push the score to 12-2.  Joynt drove in his fifth run of the contest with a double in the frame, finishing the contest two-for-four.  Every offensive starter for the T-Bones collected a hit, with five of the nine posting multi-hit efforts.  Keanon Simon tripled in the seventh inning to push his on-base streak to 17 games while Ray Sadler extended his hit streak to eight games with an infield single in the second.  Eggleston went two-for-four in his first game against Kansas City.

Erik Hamren took over for Knippschild after a two-out single by Eggleston in the seventh and retired Diaz with a flyout to end the inning.  He finished the game for the T-Bones, allowing a single run in the ninth for a 12-3 final.

Andrew Cruse takes the mound for Kansas City tomorrow night in his first start against the Goldeyes since being traded to the T-Bones with a player to be named for Eggleston this offseason.  Winnipeg counters with Stephen Flake, with first pitch set for 7:00.  Catch all the action through streaming webcast at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on the radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
