White Falls Double Shy of Cycle in Game One Win

The Kansas City T-Bones (35-18) earned a 6-2 victory in game one of a doubleheader against the Schaumburg Flyers (20-34) Wednesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Kansas City didn’t have a base runner until the third against former T-Bone Todd Moser (1-6), but they sent eight men to the plate in the inning and scored four runs. Dwayne White tripled to start the inning before scoring on an RBI single by Eladio Rodriguez. Ray Sadler then provided a two-out, bases-clearing double that pushed three more across, giving the T-Bones a 4-0 advantage.

The Flyers got on the board in the fourth when Joey Gomes hit an RBI single off starter Reid Santos (3-3). A sacrifice fly by Richard Mercado later scored Gomes, cutting Kansas City’s lead in half.

Moser exited after the fifth inning, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one in the loss. White collected his third hit of the game against Jim Popp in the sixth, a two-run home run that extended the T-Bones lead to 6-2.

Santos allowed just two runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings, striking out one in the victory.  Erik Hamren pitched a perfect seventh for the T-Bones to finish the contest.

White finished a double short of the cycle, going three-for-three with two RBI and two runs scored.
