T-Bones Prevent Sweep in Lincoln with 11-2 Thrashing

05/26/2011 9:04 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones (7-6) used a nine-run second inning to support a solid outing from Reid Santos (2-1) as they prevented a three-game sweep by the Lincoln Saltdogs (6-7) with an 11-3 win at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, NE.

After a perfect first inning for both starters, the T-Bones exploded for nine runs on nine hits and one error in the second, chasing Lincoln starter John James with one out in the frame. Aharon Eggleston drove in the first run with a one-out home run and was followed two batters later with a two-run home run by Brian Joynt. Beginning with Eggleston’s blast, nine straight T-Bones reached before the second out of the inning was recorded by reliever Sean Potter. Five T-Bones drove in at least one run in the inning, with Joynt and Ray Sadler driving in two each. Dwayne White collected two singles in the frame.

James suffered the loss after allowing eight runs on seven hits over one and one-thirds innings.

That was plenty for Santos as the left-hander surrendered just two runs on seven hits over seven innings in the victory. The second run scored off Santos came on a solo home run by Kevin Rios in the fifth. It was the first home run allowed by a T-Bones pitcher in 2011, as they were the final team to not allow a home run on the season. All other teams in the American Association entered Thursday night having surrendered at least six home runs as a staff.

Kansas City added two more runs against Potter on a two-run single by Nick Farnsworth in the eighth. After a scoreless bottom of the eighth from Wade Morrison, Rusty Jones surrendered the final Lincoln run on two hits in the ninth.

Potter retired 13 straight batters at one point over his six innings of relief. Saltdogs infielder Phil Hawke added one and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief to finish the game for Lincoln.

The T-Bones head home to begin a seven-game homestand on Friday night, beginning with a three-game series against the St. Paul Saints (8-4). Friday is Salute to America theme night presented by the Kansas Lottery. Any fan that wears red, white and blue will receive BOGO berm tickets!
