For the second straight night, Kala Ka’aihue hit two home runs for the Kansas City T-Bones (28-34) as they defeated the Amarillo Sox (29-33), 9-3, in game one of a three-game series on Monday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
Amarillo broke through with a run in the fourth inning against Kris Johnson (2-2) on a sacrifice fly by Lee Cruz. The Sox added two more on a double by Fehlandt Lentini in the fifth to pull within three, 6-3.
That was all Johnson would allow as he surrendered six hits over seven innings in the victory.
Ka’aihue connected for his second home run of the night in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 7-3. Mitchell was charged with seven runs on seven hits over six innings in the loss.
Kansas City added single tallies in the seventh and eighth innings to cap the score at 9-3. Drew Graham allowed one hit over two scoreless innings to finish the game for Kansas City.
In his last two games, Ka’aihue is four-for-seven with four home runs and 10 RBI.
