Nine Run Seventh Propels Kansas City to a 10-2 Win

05/31/2018 1:28 AM -

SIOUX CITY, IA. – After two nights of flat out crazy baseball games, it appeared that a good old-fashioned pitcher’s duel was on tap for Wednesday night at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park. For six innings the two clubs were locked in a close game with the score 2-1 Sioux City going into the seventh. The T-Bones then flipped the offensive switch on, scoring 10 runs and sending up 13 batters, helping give Kansas City (8-4) a 10-2 win over Sioux City (9-4).

Sioux City starter Keith Picht worked six innings and was done for the X’s, giving up only a solo home run to Nick Torres in the second. The home club turned to the pen in the seventh, looking to right hander Parker Markel. He promptly hit T-Bones lead-off man Angel Rosa. Rosa then stole second with Dexter Kjerstad at the plate. Kjerstad hit a sinking liner to right that Michael Lang made a great sliding catch on to record the first out of the inning. Johnny Davis reached base on an infield single to put runners at the corners.

Sioux City went to the pen once again, bringing in righty Ryan Horstman. Keith Curcio then drove a 3-2 pitch from Horstman to right center with Davis running, scoring Rosa from third while Davis raced all the way around from first to take the lead, 3-2. Dylan Tice would single after the second out of the inning to put runners again at first and third.  Torres then drove in Curcio to up the lead to 4-2.

Cal Towey then doubled to clear the bases, scoring Tice and Torres, and it was 6-2 T-Bones. Adrian Nieto reached base on an error by short stop Nate Samson, but Towey never slowed with two outs and scored easily to make it 7-2. Angel Rosa, in his second at bat of the inning, walked and was followed by Kjerstad, who also drew a walk. That would be all for Horstman as Sioux City went to the pen again. Right hander Geoff Broussard took over for the X’s with the bases loaded. Johnny Davis then hit a ball way down the left field line to wipe the bases clean as he sped around the bases for a triple to make it 10-2 Kansas City.

Luis Paula (1-1) gave up two runs in the first inning but worked a quality start for Kansas City. Paula would leave the game with two outs in the seventh with an undisclosed injury. Sam Street worked 1.1 while Jackson Lowery closed out the ninth for the T-Bones. Markel (0-1) was charged with the loss. Kansas City will wrap up the club’s seven-game road trip on Thursday night with game four of the four-game series. The game can be heard online on the T-Bones Broadcast Network with the first pitch set for 7:05pm in Sioux City. The T-Bones return home Friday night June 1st for a weekend series against the Wichita Wingnuts with the first pitch set for 7:05 pm. It will be poster night and post-game on the field autographs brought to you by SportsRadio 810 WHB.
