KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The T-Bones rallied from a five-run deficit to force extra innings, and Patrick Arlis’ tenth-inning, walk-off walk gave the T-Bones a 6-5 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes in front of 6,056 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
The Goldeyes scored five early runs off T-Bones starter Chris Krawczyk, including three in the first. Fehlandt Lentini led off the game with a single and scored on a home run by Anton French. Chris Latham then walked, scoring from first on a single from Walter Young.
In the third, Latham padded the Goldeyes’ lead with a two-run single that scored Lentini and French. Krawczyk went seven innings for Kansas City, allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits in a no decision.
Goldeyes starter Jeffery Blitstein held the T-Bones to just one hit in the first four innings, but surrendered four runs on four hits in the fifth. Calvin Pickering reached on an error by Corey Stang and scored on an RBI double by Nelson Gord. Aharon Eggleston followed with a two-run double, scoring Gord and Patrick Arlis (pictured). He later scored the T-Bones’ final run of the inning when Stang threw wildly to third base after Geoff McCallum advanced him to third with a sacrifice bunt.
Danny Core came in for Krawczyk and pitched the eighth and ninth innings for Kansas City, allowing no runs while striking out three.
Blitstein maintained a 5-4 lead until the eighth inning, when Al Benjamin scored the tying run on an RBI double by Pickering. Ryan Ariail got the final out of the inning and Brain Beuning pitched the ninth for Winnipeg, holding the T-Bones scoreless and sending the game to extra innings.
Rob Watson led off the tenth inning with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout by Mario Delgado and to third on a wild pitch by Beuning. With two outs, Beuning intentionally walked Pickering and Neb Brown to load the bases for Arlis. Arlis fell behind 1-2 before drawing a walk to score Watson, plating the winning run. Matt Schweitzer, who pitched a perfect top of the tenth, improved to 2-2 with the victory. Beuning fell to 0-1 on the season.
