Two of the premier independent professional baseball leagues have announced the first ever All-Independent League Open Tryout for free agents and aspiring professional ball players. The Northern League, with eight teams based in the upper midwest, and the Golden League, with 10 teams in western North America, will co-host the tryouts that will take place at Scottsdale Stadium in Phoenix, AZ on April 10-11.
In addition to the two host leagues, whose teams employ over 400 professional baseball players collectively, all independent teams in the U.S. have been provided permission to attend to draft and sign players. Also, the Japanese independent leagues, the Mexican minor leagues, and European leagues have received credentials as well to participate.
The tryouts will be held over a two-day period with players offered contracts at the conclusion of the second day. Major league teams that have requested participation by their scouting organizations are able to sign players at any time during the two days.
