The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Tim Doherty have signed pitcher Erik Hamren to a contract for the 2010 season.
Hamren, 23, began his professional career in the Chicago Cubs organization after being selected in the 37th round of the 2008 amateur draft. An outfielder in high school, Hamren began the conversion to pitcher with the University of the Pacific in 2007. He continued the transition in the Cubs system, appearing in 51 games while throwing 74 and two-thirds innings over the past two seasons.
“Eric is a converted outfielder that is still learning how to pitch,” said Doherty. “He is a young rookie with a big arm and has spent the offseason working on his mechanics, and should be a good option for us this season.”
Hamren spent the entire 2009 season with Class A Peoria of the Midwest League.
The T-Bones begin their 2010 campaign against the RailCats in Gary, IN on May 20 and will host the RedHawks in their home opener on May 28.
