For 97 years, Providence Medical Center has successfully served Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties with its mission to provide a “comprehensive, quality healthcare in a convenient, compassionate and cost-effective manner.” The hospital and the Kansas City T-Bones’ partnership continues to reinforce Providence’s mission for fans.

In 1918, the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth were asked by Bishop Ward to establish a Catholic hospital in Kansas City, Kan. Due to World War I, the Sisters were not able to fund the hospital. Mother Mary Berchamans turned to the divine providence, which asserts God is in complete control of all things. Providence Medical Center was soon funded, established and named after Mother Mary’s trust in God.

Located on Parallel Parkway, Providence Medical Center continues to provide innovative and advanced services, including orthopedics, neurosciences, cancer care and women’s services. Then there’s the hospital’s heart and vascular unit, which received the 2013 Mission Lifeline Award from the American Heart Association for its state-of-the-art facility and care.
When the T-Bones came to Kansas City in 2003, just one mile west of the medical center’s campus, Providence Medical Center and the T-Bones began a strong partnership.

“Providence has a long history in Wyandotte County and has always supported community growth and involvement,” said Kathie Conwell, director of Providence Medical Center’s marketing and public relations. “Given the T-Bones organization’s values and mission to provide affordable family entertainment, coupled with their proximity to the hospital campus, the T-Bones are a natural fit for us as a partner.”

For the past 12-plus years, Providence Medical Center has continued to provide the T-Bones with medical services, including first-aid assistance during games at CommunityAmerica Ballpark and medical awareness.

“The large gathering of fans at games and the T-Bones’ social media presence gives Providence an opportunity for community education,” Conwell said.

In the past, the hospital has informed T-Bones fans on stroke awareness, hands-only CPR, the importance of cancer screening and heat exhaustion.

Starting from divine providence 97 years ago, the Providence Medical Center has become one of the top hospitals in Kansas City. With its core values, partnership with the T-Bones and expert care, the hospital will continue to serve the community for years to come.
