08/23/2003 9:45 AM - Fargo-Moorhead jumped out to a 4-0 lead, getting a single run in the bottom of the first inning and adding three runs in the second inning.
Kansas City got a run off Fargo-Moorhead reliever Jon Hooker in the top of the sixth inning, as Taber Maier singled home Bao Vinh. Vinh had singled earlier in the inning and his run made the score 4-1. Fargo-Moorhead added three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Back-to-back RBI doubles from Rumfield and Juan Melo made the score 6-1. The Redhawks third run of the inning came in on a throwing error by Vinh that allowed Melo to score and make the score 7-1.
Kansas City scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning thanks to a bases loaded walk, a two-run single by Stanton Cameron and an RBI single from Chad Shindle. Redhawks closer Trevor Sansom came in to the game with two outs in the ninth to record the final out and earn his fourth save of the season.
Kansas City starter Tony Bacci (5-8) took the loss.
He pitched 6.1 innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits. Bacci struck out one batter and walked two. RedHawks starting pitcher Hank Thoms (6-2) pitched 5.0 innings of shutout baseball to collect the victory. He allowed just one hit, walked one and struck out three batters.
