KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones three-game series ended this afternoon with a sweep at the hands of the Winnipeg Goldeyes, 12-2, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Rob Watson walked in his first at bat before grounding out in his next appearance, ending his streak of consecutive plate appearances reached safely at 11.
In front of 4,511 fans, Rick Rivas (pictured) of Kansas City and Zach Baldwin of the Goldeyes held the offenses scoreless in the first three innings. Brent Metheny walked to lead off the fourth for Winnipeg and scored on a groundout from Tydus Meadows for the first run of the game. Brad Correll responded with a home run in the fourth inning to tie the score, 1-1.
Baldwin held the T-Bones scoreless over the next two innings as his offense plated single runs in each of those frames to give him a 3-1 advantage. He left after six and one-thirds innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits as he improved to 2-1 on the season.
Rivas allowed the first two batters in the seventh to reach before leaving with nobody out. The next two batters doubled off reliever Tag Horner as the Goldeyes scored three runs in the seventh to open their lead, 6-1. Rivas pitched a total of six-plus innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits as he suffered his first professional loss.
Nick Jaros reached on an error to begin the seventh and scored on a single by Aharon Eggleston to plate Kansas City’s final run of the game. Brian Beuning pitched the final two and two-thirds scoreless innings for Winnipeg.
Tag Horner allowed four runs, three earned, in the eighth inning with the first three batters reaching on two hits and an error. Meadows capped off the frame with a two-run single, bringing his RBI total to three in the contest.
Winnipeg scored two more runs in the ninth inning off Reid Hamblet to push the final total to 12-2.
The T-Bones host the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks tomorrow in game one of the three-game series as Kansas City sends ace Anthony Boughner out to face Broc Coffman of Fargo. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
