KANSAS CITY, Kan. – An eighth-inning home run by Rob Watson (pictured) propelled the Kansas City T-Bones to victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes tonight in front of 6,979 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
The T-Bones scored first in the contest off Brandon Kintzler of Winnipeg. Jim Fasano scored on a sacrifice fly from Neb Brown for the first run. Kevin Mahar reached on an error from Antoin Gray, stole second, and was plated on a single from Geoff McCallum, making the score 2-0 in the bottom of the second.
Kevin West hit a three-run home run off Anthony Boughner in the top of the third to give Winnipeg a 3-2 advantage. Both teams remained scoreless until the Goldeyes scored two more runs in the top of the fifth. Demetrius Heath scored on a sacrifice fly from Chad Ehrnsberger and Tydus Meadows plated Max Poulin with a single to push the score to 5-2.
Kansas City got a run back in the bottom of the frame with Aharon Eggleston hitting a two-run single, making the score, 5-4. Kintzler left after pitching five and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on nine hits in a no-decision.
Boughner gave way to Tag Horner in the sixth, leaving after allowing five runs on five hits in five innings. He did not factor into the decision.
Ehrnsberger homered off Horner in the eighth, opening the Goldeyes lead to 6-4. Watson’s blast in the bottom of the frame erased the T-Bones deficit, giving them a 7-6 advantage heading into the ninth. David Trahan finished the game with a scoreless frame, getting help from newcomer Greg Jacobs on a diving catch in right field to end the contest.
Horner improved to 4-0 while Trahan picked up his league-leading 13th save of the season.
Watson finished three-for-four with a home run and three RBI to pace the T-Bones. Jacobs went two-for-five in his return to Kansas City.
The two teams face off tomorrow in the third game of the four-game series. Kenny Durost takes the mound for the T-Bones against Bear Bay for Winnipeg. First pitch scheduled for 7:05.
