The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Andy McCauley have announced the signing of former University of Kansas hurler Ryan Knippschild to a contract for the 2009 season.
Knippschild, 26, joins the T-Bones after spending the 2008 season with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League. The left-hander threw a career high 71 and one-thirds innings in his first season in the independent leagues, posting a 3-4 record with a 5.30 ERA over 50 relief appearances.
“Ryan is an experienced left-hander that knows how to throw strikes,” said McCauley. “He is a versatile pitcher that can contribute as both a starter and a reliever.”
A 35th round draft pick by the Cleveland Indians in 2004, Knippschild spent three seasons in the Indians system before a stint with the Texas Rangers organization in 2007. Reaching as high as Double-A with both the Indians and Rangers, he holds a 20-20 career record while posting a K:BB ratio greater than 2:1 (251:104) over his five seasons.
The T-Bones begin their title defense on May 15 at home against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Single-game tickets for the 2009 exhibition and regular season are on sale now and start at just $6. Season tickets, group tickets, mini-plans and All-You-Can-Eat plans are available as well. For more information, call 913-328-5618 or visit www.tbonesbaseball.com
