T-Bones Take Exhibition Opener Against KCK

05/04/2009 9:51 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones picked up five runs on five hits in a decisive fifth inning as they cruised to a 6-2 victory over KCK at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.  The T-Bones added six more runs in a token bottom of the ninth to push the score to 12-2.

After a scoreless first inning, the T-Bones struck first against KCK starter Eric Cordell on a solo home run by Ken Harvey.  Cordell would leave after five-plus innings of work having surrendered just two runs on three hits in the loss.

T-Bones starter Luis Villarreal threw two scoreless innings to begin his outing before surrendering a leadoff triple to Tony Hurla to begin the third.  Hurla would later score on an RBI infield single by Ryan Reed for the only blemish on Villarreal’s night.  The left-hander allowed three hits while walking one and striking out three in his outing.

Justin James entered for Villarreal in the fourth and threw three scoreless innings for Kansas City, allowing just one hit in that span.  He retired the final seven batters he faced as he earned the victory.

Kansas City plated the first run of the sixth on an RBI single by Neb Brown (pictured) off Mike Neal.  After Brown scored on a single by Brad Correll, Jim Fasano capped off the frame with a three-run shot, pushing the score to 6-1.  Payton Tweddale and Hiarali Garcia threw scoreless seventh and eighth innings respectively for Kansas City.

KCK picked up one run on a sacrifice fly by Chad Wilfawn in the ninth against Todd Moser.  After the two teams agreed to play the bottom of the ninth, the T-Bones used RBI doubles by Brown and Aharon Eggleston and home runs by Ryan Fox and Correll to plate six more runs for a 12-2 final.

Brown finished the contest three-for-three with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.  Correll ended his night two-for-five with a home run and four RBI.  Fasano finished two-for-five with a home run and three RBI.

The T-Bones have one final exhibition game at home on May 12 at 7:05 against the River City Rascals.  Kansas City then begins their title defense at home against the Winnipeg Goldeyes on May 15.  Single-game tickets for the both contests are on sale now and start at just $6.  Season tickets, group tickets, mini-plans and All-You-Can-Eat plans are available as well.  For more information, call 913-328-5618 or visit www.tbonesbaseball.com
