Bolton Leads Kansas City to Win in Series Opener

05/26/2009 10:16 PM -

A strong performance from Dustin Bolton led Kansas City to a 7-4 win over the Joliet JackHammers at CommunityAmerica Ballpark tonight.

Bolton threw two shutout innings for the T-Bones in front of 3,009 fans before surrendering a solo home run to Mike Garcia with one out in the third inning.  The JackHammers bats remained quiet through the seventh, as the right-hander retired 13 of the next 15 batters he faced following the home run.  Kevin Rios hit a home run to lead off the eighth and Mike Garcia added a single with one out to chase Bolton from the game.

The T-Bones offense got off to a quick start as Jim Fasano knocked in two with a one-out double off starter Devin Anderson in the first inning.  An RBI double by Craig Hurba then made the score 3-0 after one frame.  Kansas City put together a two-out rally in the third when a walk by Ken Harvey and singles by Hurba and Ryan Fox loaded the bases.  Harvey scored when John Urick was hit by a pitch, and the T-Bones plated another run when Eric Scriven walked to push the score to 5-1.  Aharon Eggleston picked up an RBI with a single in the fifth and drove in another run with a fielder’s choice in the seventh to cap the scoring for the T-Bones.

Payton Tweddale entered in relief of Bolton and gave up a double to the first batter he faced.  Garcia then scored on a groundout, as Bolton was charged with his third run of the game.  The JackHammers scored their fourth and final run of the night with an RBI single by Phil Avlas that made the score 7-4.

Tweddale gave way to Cody McAllister in the ninth.  The right-hander threw a perfect frame to earn his second save of the season.  Bolton earned the victory after allowing three runs on five hits over seven and one-thirds innings.  He finished with 85 pitches, 62 strikes, on the night.  Anderson was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs on five hits in just three innings.

Chris Rhoads takes the mound for Kansas City tomorrow night against Aaron Trolia in game two of the three-game series.  First pitch is set for 7:05.  Single game, group, All-You-Can-Eat and season tickets are still available for the homestand and start at just $6.  For more information and to reserve your seats, call 913-328-5618 or visit
