Kansas City Unable to Avoid Three-Game Sweep

05/31/2009 7:49 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones (7-7) were unable to avoid a sweep tonight as they fell 6-2 to the Schaumburg Flyers (7-6) in the final game of a three-game series at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.  This is the first sweep of the T-Bones by Schaumburg since July 14-16, 2006.

In front of 4,595 fans, Aharon Eggleston began the T-Bones half of the first with a ground-rule double off Adam Howard (1-2) and moved to third on a single by Damian Rolls.  An RBI single from Brad Correll scored Eggleston, giving Kansas City a 1-0 lead.  With two on and nobody out, Jim Fasano hit into a double play followed by a groundout from Ken Harvey to end the threat.

Jeff Dunbar scored Schaumburg’s first run off Dustin Bolton (1-1) on a solo home run in the second inning.  After reaching on an error in the third, Richard Mercado scored on an infield single by Julius Thames, breaking the 1-1 tie.  In the fourth, an RBI single by Victor Ferrante plated Dunbar and two-run shot by Mercado gave Schaumburg a 5-1 lead.

A solo home run in the sixth by Ferrante marked the sixth and final run of the game for the Flyers.  Bolton left after six innings, surrendering six runs, five earned, on nine hits in the loss.

After Howard retired 12 of 14 batters following Correll’s first-inning single, Damian Rolls capped the scoring with a solo home run, his first of the year.  Howard allowed two runs and six hits in six and one-thirds innings to earn the victory.

Weston Curles entered the game for Kansas City in the seventh, and with the help of a double play, faced just three batters in the inning.  Blair Johnson and Todd Moser each added a perfect inning to finish the game for the T-Bones.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes come to town tomorrow night to begin a stretch of four games in three days.  Chris Rhoads takes the mound in game one opposite Ben Pfinsgraff and the Winnipeg Goldeyes.  First pitch is set for 7:05.  Single-game tickets for the T-Bones start at just $6.  Season tickets, group tickets, mini-plans and All-You-Can-Eat plans are available as well.
