08/02/2009 8:15 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones (31-39) won the rubber match of a three-game set, 5-2, against the Gary SouthShore RailCats (40-30) tonight at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The RailCats struck first, scoring one run in the second inning off Dustin Bolton (4-4) in front of 4,867.  Chris Carrara walked to start the frame and moved to third on a single by Mike Rohde.  A sacrifice fly by Jeff Beachum scored Carrara, giving Gary a 1-0 advantage.

After three scoreless innings, Tony Cogan (6-6) hit Damian Rolls to begin the fourth.  Rolls went to second on a wild pitch and was pushed to third with a groundball by Greg Jacobs.  A wild throw by Cogan on the play allowed Rolls to score and moved Jacobs to second.  An RBI single by Craig Hurba then plated Jacobs, giving Kansas City a 2-1 lead.

Jeff Helps was hit by a pitch to start the T-Bones half of the fifth inning and moved to second on a single by Aharon Eggleston.  Both runners advanced on another error by Cogan during an attempted pickoff before Helps came home on an RBI fielder’s choice groundout by Jacobs.  Eggleston scored and Jacobs advanced to third on an error by shortstop Jay Pecci before an RBI single by Ryan Fox pushed Jacobs across, extending the T-Bones lead to 5-1.

Mike Massaro started the sixth inning with an infield single and scored on an RBI triple by Carrara, capping the scoring on the night at 5-2.

Bolton surrendered just two runs on seven hits in six and one-thirds innings in the win.  Daniel Sattler threw one and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief before Nate Cotton earned his seventh save of the season with a perfect ninth.

Cogan took the loss, allowing five runs, two earned, on four hits over seven innings.

With a one-for-five performance, Eggleston extended his on-base streak to 29 games and has now hit safely in 16 consecutive contests.  Fox finished the night two-for-three with a triple and an RBI.

The T-Bones travel to Fargo to begin a four-game series against the RedHawks tomorrow night.  Neither team has announced their starters for the series.  First pitch is set for 7:00.  To catch all the action while the T-Bones are on the road, tune to KXTR 1660 AM or click the listen live link at www.tbonesbaseball.com
