The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Andy McCauley have finalized their roster for the final weeks of the 2009 season, highlighted by the signing of former major leaguer Luis Terrero.
Terrero, 29, is in his 12th season as a professional, including parts of five seasons at the major league level. Originally signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Arizona Diamondbacks on September 27, 1997, Terrero spent five seasons in the minors before making his debut with Arizona on July 10, 2003 as a pinch-hitter versus San Diego. Through 243 major league games, Terrero holds a .234 average with 14 home runs and 52 RBI.
“Luis will help take some pressure off our offense,” said McCauley. “He’ll solidify the middle of our lineup and adds experience for the stretch run.”
Terrero joins Kansas City after hitting .345 with 21 home runs and 90 RBI over 103 games with Laguna of the Mexican League this season.
The T-Bones also added left-handed pitcher Brett Davis to the staff. A product of Oklahoma State University, Davis played two seasons for the Cowboys after transferring from Arizona State University prior to the 2008 season. Over 25 games for OSU, Davis went 3-2 with a 6.30 ERA over 30 innings. He struck out 27 while walking 16 in his two seasons with the Cowboys.
To make room on the roster, Kansas City traded infielder Mark Minicozzi to the Winnipeg Goldeyes for future considerations. Pitcher Derek Duclos (retro August 12) and catcher Cody Neer (retro July 31) were also placed on the disabled list.
“The decision to trade Mark was tough, but we had to clear roster and salary space for the addition of Luis,” added McCauley. “With the new additions, I believe we match up better as the playoff race intensifies.”
Davis is slated to start game one of tonight’s doubleheader against Dustin Glant and the Schaumburg Flyers. Chris Rhoads will take the mound opposite Ryan Gehring in game two. First pitch of game one is set for 6:05. For more information and to secure your seats, call 913-328-5618 or visit www.tbonesbaseball.com
