The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Tim Doherty have announced the signing of Jim Fasano for the 2010 season.
Fasano, 26, will be entering his seventh season in professional baseball and third with Kansas City. Originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the ninth round of the 2004 amateur draft, Fasano spent four seasons in their organization, advancing as high as Double-A Frisco in 2006 and 2007.
“We are excited to have Jim back for the 2010 season,” said Doherty. “Jim and I both expect a big season, the same or better than his 2008 season. He has that ability.”
During the 2008 season, Fasano hit .292/.387/.534 with 20 home runs and 84 RBI. He paced the league in home runs, RBI, total bases (196), and extra-base hits (49) that season while averaging a home run in every 18.35 at bats, also a league best. He was even better in the playoffs, hitting .462/.533/.846 with three home runs and 10 RBI, earning Northern League Playoff MOP honors as the T-Bones won their first Northern League Championship.
After posting a .234 average through the first two months last season, Fasano batted .292 over the final two months while hitting eight of his 12 home runs in that span. He finished at .266/.356/.444 while ending the campaign fourth in doubles (24) and fifth in RBI (68).
The T-Bones begin their 2010 campaign in Gary, Ind. on May 20 and will host the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in their home opener on May 28.
