T-Bones Finish Home Schedule with Four-Game Sweep

08/26/2011 9:41 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones (47-49) picked up their season-high fifth straight victory in front of 7,496 fans on Saturday night as they finished their 2011 home schedule with a four-game sweep of the Sioux Falls Pheasants (40-55) in a 6-1 victory at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Both starters matched zeros through the first four innings before the T-Bones struck for two runs against Barry Fowler (5-7) in the bottom of the fifth inning. An RBI single by Ray Sadler capped off the frame and pushed his season total to 95, giving him sole possession of the franchise single-season RBI record. The previous mark was set at 94 by Eddie Pearson in 2004.

Sioux Falls scored their lone run in the top of the sixth against Brian Grening (6-3) on a sacrifice fly by Mark Shorey. Grening went six innings for the T-Bones, securing the victory after allowing one run on four hits. It was the right-hander’s first start since July 10, 2009 and just the third of his four-year career.

Kansas City chased Fowler in the seventh with a four-run frame, collecting five hits while sending nine batters to the plate. Keanon Simon drove in the first run with a double and later scored on a single by Jim Fasano. Peter Barrows capped the score at 6-1 with a two-run double.

Fowler was charged with four runs on 10 hits over six-plus innings in the loss. Steven Stewart allowed two hits over three scoreless innings to close out the game for Kansas City and secure his first save of the season.

All nine T-Bones collected a hit in the contest as they outhit Sioux Falls 14-6. Simon finished three-for-five with two doubles, a triple and an RBI to pace the offense. The triple was his league-leading 16th of the season.

Kansas City now heads to Fargo, ND for a four-game series against the RedHawks to close out the season. The series begins on Saturday night with first pitch set for 7:02. To catch all the action while the team is on the road listen live on KUDL Radio Bach 1660 AM or online at www.tbonesbaseball.com.
