In early August, Jeff Husted became the T-Bones new Sr. Director of Corporate Sales. After working in sales and marketing for the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, 610 Sports and the Royals Radio Network, Husted joined the front office of the Missouri Comets in 2010. As he was getting settled in his new digs at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, Husted spent a few minutes answering questions for tbonesbaseball.com.
Question: You’re originally from Littleton, Colorado. How did you end up in Kansas City?
Jeff Husted: I left Colorado in 1995 to play soccer and go to school at Tabor College, a very small school in Hillsboro, Kan., where I met my wife, who is from Wichita. We moved to Kansas City in 2006 when I began working for the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network. We have stayed because we love the city, the people and raising our kids here.
You mention the Chiefs Radio Network. You’ve worked on the team side of sports sales, too, with the Comets and FCKC. What do you enjoy most about the team side?
JH: Being on the team side allows me to work directly with our partners on a daily basis, helping them to accomplish their goals while enjoying a day at the ballpark. Plus, it’s hard to argue about a job where my office overlooks a field, particularly one as nice as CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
What drew you to the T-Bones from the Comets?
JH: The first sporting event I ever attended in Kansas City was a Fourth of July T-Bones game. We loved the park, sitting in the berm and watching the fireworks. I got to know Chris Browne shortly after that. Spend five minutes with him and you know instantly why the T-Bones have done so well over the years. I am excited to work here and with him.
To some, this might seem like an odd time to start with the club – at the end of the season – but on the sales side, does it help get a feel for the organization heading into the offseason?
JH: From my point-of-view, this is the perfect time to join the club. I get to spend the next few weeks seeing the team in action and meeting our partners. I can use this time to evaluate what is working well, and still have time to make any changes to improve how we work in 2015.
What excites you most about starting this new adventure with the T-Bones?
JH: The passion for the game, the fans and our partners is evident the moment you walk into Community America Ballpark. I’m looking forward to being a part of this great team
This might tie in to a previous question, but even though you’ve known Chris Browne and others within the organization for awhile, what was your outside perception of the club?
JH: I’ve always been a fan of the T-Bones. I’m not sure my family has missed a Fourth of July game at CommunityAmerica Ballpark since we moved here. The games are fun, the team is entertaining and it’s a great place to spend some time watching a game.
