Fifth Inning Errors Lead to 9-5 T-Bone Loss

05/28/2005 9:49 PM - With the help of three walks and two Kansas City T-Bones errors, the St. Paul Saints scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a commanding lead over the T-Bones. St. Paul would hold on to defeat the T-Bones, 9-5, in front of 6,238 at Midway Stadium in St. Paul, Minn.

Rick Prieto led off the game with a solo shot to right field for the T-Bones, but St. Paul would score twice in the bottom of the second against T-Bones starter Nick Webb (L, 1-1). Saints Billy Munoz and Tim Marks each drove in runs in the second inning to give the Saints the lead.

In the third, St. Paul would augment their lead when Kris Cox's leadoff double was followed by a Justin Hall triple. Hall scored on Nick Gretz's sacrifice fly, giving the Saints a 4-1 lead that starter Rich Cartier (W, 2-0) would make stand up.

That was as close as the T-Bones would get the remainder of the game, with the four runs in the fifth giving the Saints a 9-2 lead. Webb walked the bases loaded before giving way to reliever David Viane. Viane allowed a two-run single to Tonayne Brown, and an error by center fielder Rick Prieto allowed the runners to move up to second and third. A ground ball by Chad Ehrnsberger got through the legs of Chad Hill, bringing in two runs.

Kansas City would score single runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth inning, two of which were solo home runs from Eddie Pearson and Brandon Jones.

Notes: Pearson was 3-for-5 in the game with two runs batted in... Adam Clay worked scoreless seventh and eighth innings for the T-Bones... former T-Bone Chad Ehrnsberger homered in the fourth inning for the Saints... Sean Flynn (4) and Cody Nowlin (6) each had their hitting streaks snapped.
