The Sioux Falls Canaries slammed four homers against Kansas City T-Bones pitchers in Thursday night's game, leading to nine runs, and the Sioux Falls Canaries routed the Kansas City T-Bones, 10-2, in the series finale at the Birdcage in Sioux Falls, S. Dak. The loss gives the Canaries the series, two games to one, and sends the T-Bones home as losers of four of seven games on their northern swing.
Sioux Falls used a two-run homer by Edgard Clemente as their springboard in the game. Clemente's longball to left followed an Anthony Monegan infield single and gave the Canaries a 2-0 lead in the game. The T-Bones would fight back with a run in the second against starter Julio Medina (W, 2-3), with three consecutive hits capped by Chad Sosebee's double to right to cut the lead in half. That was as close as the T-Bones would get in the game, however.
Sioux Falls continued to build their lead in the game, with a double by Abner Arroyo scoring Monegan in the third to make it 3-1. Arroyo's next two times up, he socked two-run homers - his third and fourth of the season. On the game, Arroyo was 4-for-5 with five RBI. In between Arroyo's longballs was a three-run homer by Alex Llanos, his third of the season, which gave Sioux Falls an 8-1 lead.
Jonathan Krysa (L, 1-6) started on the mound for the T-Bones and allowed five runs in five innings while striking out six. Reliever J.C. Ortiz came on in relief of Krysa in the sixth, and Ortiz allowed the home runs to Llanos and Arroyo to make the deficit 10-1.
Greg Jacobs hit a home run, his third as a T-Bone, in the top of the eighth inning.
Notes: Rick Prieto's triple in the ninth, his first of the season, extended his personal season-best hitting streak to ten games... Joe Goodmann and Adam Clay threw scoreless seventh and eighth innings, respectively, in relief... Chad Sosebee smacked two doubles for the T-Bones in the loss.
