08/14/2005 9:21 PM - The Kansas City T-Bones and St. Paul Saints finally got a chance to play on Sunday after rainouts on two consecutive nights. The Saints ruined a beautiful day for the T-Bones, taking both ends of a doubleheader, 5-1 and 2-1, in front of 4,905 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.
The first game saw Greg Bicknell (L, 12-5) head to the mound for the T-Bones looking for his thirteenth win of the season. Seven Kansas City errors, leading to four unearned runs, ensured he wouldn't get the win.
Chad Ehrnsberger started the scoring for St. Paul with a solo homer in the top of the first inning, giving Hank Woodman (W, 4-3) an early cushion. Woodman didn't allow a hit to the T-Bones until the fifth inning, when Sean Flynn singled to center. By that time, the Saints led 4-0. The T-Bones scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh against Woodman for their lone run in the game.
The second game started off well for Kansas City, with Brandon Jones hammering his twelfth homer of the season to right-center for the T-Bones in the second inning. It looked as if the T-Bones would put St. Paul starter Mike Meyer (W, 6-6) away in the third with runners at the corners and none out, but Greg Jacobs was picked off first and, after Ray Brown's walk, David Segui grounded into a double play to end the inning.
St. Paul scored twice in the fifth inning against T-Bone knuckleballer Joe Gannon (L, 0-1), making his Kansas City debut. T Brown led off the fifth with a solo homer to left and a Kris Cox infield single plated the go-ahead run for the Saints.
Matt Hammons (S, 15) struck out the side in order in the seventh inning to seal the sweep for the Saints.
The T-Bones are off tomorrow for their third annual golf tournament at Tiffany Greens, but will host the Sioux City Explorers for three starting Tuesday at 7:05 pm.
