08/21/2005 8:28 PM - The Kansas City T-Bones and Gary SouthShore RailCats took thirteen innings to decide the winner of the third game of their series, but it was the RailCats winning, 4-3, in front of 5,122 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Gary scored the deciding run on an Alex Taylor single in the top of the thirteenth inning which scored Steve Haake.
The T-Bones got six and a third solid innings from starter David Viane, who recorded fifteen of nineteen outs by way of the ground ball. Viane allowed three runs in the game, including a solo home run by Fehlandt Lentini in the first inning that put Gary up, 1-0. Lentini was 4-for-6 in the game, but was thrown out trying to steal on two of three attempts.
After the Lentini homer, Kansas City would score twice, with Eric Vega coming across on a Cody Nowlin single in the first inning and Chad Sosebee scoring in the second on a triple to left by Vega.
But as is their custom, Gary came back with two runs against Viane to take the lead, with run-scoring singles in the sixth and seventh innings by Scott Samuels and Eric McNamee, respectively.
The T-Bones tied it up in the bottom of the eighth after Eric Vega walked against RailCat reliever Randy Vanderplow, who then balked him to second and uncorked a wild pitch to move him to third. Vega scored on Gabby Delgado's double to right; that was the last run until the thirteenth inning.
Jonathan Krysa (L, 5-9) allowed ten hits in 6 2/3 innings of relief, but allowed just one run, the game-winner in the thirteenth. Greg Bruso (W, 4-6) earned his second win in as many nights with two scoreless innings of relief, striking out Brandon Jones to end the game.
The two teams end their four-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 pm. It's Winkler's Diamonds Ladies Night as well as the World's Largest Poker Game. Great seats are still available by calling (913)328-BALL!
