Buck O'Neil to Speak at All-Star Luncheon

03/09/2006 3:00 PM - The Kansas City T-Bones are excited to announce that John “Buck” O’Neil will be the keynote speaker at the Northern League All-Star Luncheon on July 18th. The luncheon, which will begin at noon, is held on the afternoon of the Northern League All-Star Game, which will be played for the first time at Kansas City’s award-winning CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

O’Neil has had a profound impact on professional baseball since 1937. He played with the Memphis Red Sox and the Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro League, managed the Monarchs, scouted for the major leagues and became the first recognized black major league coach. Today, O’Neil serves as the chair of the Negro League Baseball Museum’s Board of Directors and is on the Veteran’s Committee of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, as well as a member of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.

The Northern League All-Star Game will be held on July 18th at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. This year’s game will pit the East Division (comprised of Gary, Joliet, Schaumburg and Kansas City) against the West Division (Calgary, Edmonton, Fargo-Moorhead and Winnipeg). Festivities surrounding the game will include a Fan Fest on Monday, July 17th, as well as the league’s Home Run Derby and Skills Competition on that afternoon.

Luncheon tickets may be purchased by calling the T-Bones at (913)328-BALL (2255), and game tickets will go on sale to the general public in mid-April. As well, All-Star Game tickets are included in all season ticket packages and mini-plans, which may be purchased by calling (913)328-5618.
