05/05/2006 12:46 PM - CommunityAmerica Ballpark is bustling with activity this week and Kansas City T-Bones manager Dirty Al Gallagher added to the festivities Friday by announcing two new player signings. Jon Uhl and Craig Hurba are the latest T-Bone additions and bring much needed manpower to two positions (pitcher and catcher) at which you can never have enough depth.
Hurba (pictured right) joins the T-Bones after a successful 2005 campaign in which he split time between the Rangers Single-A clubs in Clinton and Bakersfield, hitting a combined .296 with four homers and 40 RBI. The Bainbridge, NY native was drafted in the 38th round of the 2004 draft by Texas out of Mt. Olive College (NC). Hurba becomes the first catcher to sign with the T-Bones and brings a .288 lifetime batting average into the 2006 season.
Jon Uhl was obtained last week by the T-Bones from the Yuma Scorpions (Golden League) to complete an earlier transaction. The right-hander played his college ball at the University of South Florida and has compiled a career record of 10-8 and 4.12 ERA in his three years as a professional. Uhl, a 19th round pick of the Minnesota Twins in 2003, went 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA last season for the Mesa Miners.
After continuing pre-season work-outs this afternoon, the T-Bones will host Fargo-Moorhead in a two-game exhibition series this weekend at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Game times are set for Saturday at 7:05 p.m and Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
Tickets for the exhibition series or any regular season game may be purchased online at www.tbonesbaseball.com, by calling (913) 328-BALL, or by stopping by any Kansas City or Topeka CommunityAmerica Credit Union branch or the CommunityAmerica Ballpark box office.
