RedHawks Soar Past T-Bones, 9-2

07/24/2006 10:18 PM - KANSAS CITY – The T-Bones (28-31, 6-5) scored two runs in the first inning, but were silent the rest of the way, falling 9-2 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (36-23, 4-7) 9-2 in front of 5,316 fans, the best Monday crowd of the season, Monday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The T-Bones drew first blood when an attempted pickoff throw by Fargo starter Todd George missed its mark, allowing J.D. Foust, who led off the inning with a single, to score from third. Greg Jacobs gave his team another run when he scored on a groundout by Eddie Pearson.

Fargo struck back in the third inning, loading the bases with two outs and scoring three runs on a double by Harry Berrios that allowed Brent Krause, Jesse Hoorelbeke, and Richard Austin to score. The RedHawks led 3-2 going into the home half of the third.

The RedHawks began to fly away with the game in the fifth inning. Fargo used three singles, a double, a triple, and a walk to plate six runs on five hits, and took a 9-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth.

The T-Bones struggled against RedHawks pitchers nearly all night, managing just four hits in the game, all of which came in their two-run first inning.

Kansas City’s pitchers shared the same struggles against Fargo hitters. Starter Hank Woodman lasted just 4.1 innings before giving way to Lavon Lewis, who slowed things down a bit, holding the RedHawks to two hits, walking one and recording three strikeouts. Logan McElwain took the mound for the final two innings, allowing two hits and holding Fargo scoreless.

T-Bones starter Hank Woodman (3-2) was hit with the loss, while Todd George (5-2) picked up his fifth win of the season for the RedHawks.

The RedHawks and T-Bones will meet again Tuesday night for the second of a three game set. Kansas City right-hander Greg Bicknell (5-7, 3.67) will toe the rubber for the T-Bones, while Fargo’s starter has yet to be determined. First pitch is slated for 7:05 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
