SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The T-Bones offense struggled against Billy Keppinger for the third time this season while a series of miscues saddled Jonathan Krysa (pictured) with three unearned runs in a complete game loss, 5-2.
The T-Bones fell behind in the first inning after Demetrius Heath walked to lead off the game, stole second and went to third on a throwing error by T-Bones catcher Patrick Arlis. With two outs, he scored on a soft single by Christian Snavely to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.
Krysa allowed two more runs in the third with RBI base-hits from Snavely and Pat O’Sullivan, one of which was unearned due to an error by shortstop Geoff McCallum.
The Flyers added another run in the fourth on an RBI groundout by Sandy Almonte, plating Billy Malone who led off the frame with a double. Schaumburg then scored their fifth and final run on a double steal of second and home by Billy Malone and Almonte in the sixth. Malone had reached on a throwing error by Geoff McCallum, the T-Bones’ fourth error of the game, making the run unearned. Jonathan Krysa went eight innings for the complete game, allowing only two earned runs on five hits while striking out six, but took the loss.
The T-Bones offense did not break through against Flyers starter Keppinger until the seventh inning, when Aharon Eggleston drove in two runs with a single. Kansas City had the tying run at the plate, but Jake Toohey replaced Keppinger and got the last two outs of the inning.
The T-Bones went 1-2-3 against Toohey in the eighth and could not score against former T-Bone James Morrison in the ninth, leaving them with the 5-2 loss. Keppinger improved to 4-4 while Morrison picked up his ninth save of the season.
Game Notes: Rob Watson’s on-base streak ended at 24 games when he failed to reach base in four plate appearances…Keppinger pitched six scoreless innings to start the game against the T-Bones, running his season scoreless streak against the T-Bones to 21 innings before Eggleston’s RBI single in the seventh.
