Haake Homers RailCats Past T-Bones, 4-2

08/20/2005 10:19 PM - Steve Haake hit his second homer of the season, a two-run shot to right against Kansas City T-Bone starter Jon McDonald in the top of the seventh inning, to give the Gary SouthShore RailCats a 3-1 lead over the T-Bones. The RailCats would score once more in the inning, and the T-Bones could muster just one more run in a 4-2 loss in front of 6,551 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.

McDonald (L, 6-5) cruised through the first six innings of the game, allowing just a fifth-inning run to Gary after the T-Bones had taken a lead in the third inning on a solo homer to left by Chad Sosebee. Sosebee's homer, his eleventh of the season, had staked the T-Bones to a 1-0 lead.

But it was the seventh inning where Gary got it done against McDonald and reliever Nate Ruhl. Haake's homer was followed by a walk to Dale Mueller, the last batter McDonald would face before giving way to Ruhl. Ruhl allowed two singles to get Mueller around the bases.

The T-Bones had runners at the corners and none out in the eighth against Gary reliever Travis Kerber, but Kerber induced Greg Jacobs to ground into a double play to end the threat. Kerber's high-wire act made a winner of Greg Bruso (W, 3-6), who threw 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Mike Cosgrove threw 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief for the T-Bones to close the game, striking out two, while Derek Lopez earned his sixteenth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
